Scientists have managed to create a light transmitting concrete :-) and i thought i would share this with you.
litracon-light-transmitting-concrete.jpg
Fabulous and dramatic, Litracon have created a concrete that is as innovative as it is amazing. Designed by Hungarian Aron Losonczi, Litracon creates a mysterious light material that retains the strength and texture of concrete. Litracon uses a matrix of glass optic fibres to transmit light through the concrete. Rather than weaken the material, the web of glass actually lends strength to the concrete by creating a modest aggregate. Suddenly the solid primitive material gives a light translucent aspect that transmits dramatic shadows like a screen. Due to the fabulous properties of fibre optics, light can transmit through up to twenty meters of Litracon. It can be cast as blocks, panels or even precast forms of light-transmitting concrete. Perfect for concrete constructions as well as decorative interiors Litracon brings a juxtaposition of earth and light.litracon-lit-concrete.jpg

Being in Uganda i rarely come across these,
but out here indoor waterfalls are greatly being turned to for interior design... harmonic-environments-indoor-waterfall.jpgThe materials and design of our home has a huge impact on our emotions and well being. Harmonic Environments use the natural water element to add a serene vitality, creating a relaxing soothing environment. Although water is known to purify the air and bring tranquillity, it has always been a difficult element to work with. However Harmonic Environments offer a broad range of fabulous Indoor Waterfalls to suit any application. They are ideal as distinctive room dividers or simply as kinetic works of art. For residential applications they can be an alternative to a fireplace, offering peaceful relaxation without the risk to children and pets. The central glass panes give a surface for the water to rush down, and can ensure privacy. Combined with dramatic lighting it can become the showpiece for any home. Indoor Waterfall is splash free and runs silently, leaving only the burbling sound of cascading water.
