the vortex fountain

Charybdis is a vortex fountain located in Seaham Hall, Sunderland(UK). The design is definitely a crowd puller, any giant fountain would be for that matter. However, there is something peculiar about the shape of this one as it resembles either a whirlpool or if you want to be a tad more creative then a giant see through toilet that has been flushed. I wonder if  designer William Pye noticed this as he was working on his largest and most magnificent vortex fountain to but date. The fountain is made from a large acrylic polymer cylinder which allows an air-core vortex to form as water is pumped in a circular motion. The mechanism of Charybdis doesn't interest me much, but the design sure does.
